Committed to Connecting Our Community to Christ

Our Vision (as summarized above):

We are faithful in using our God-given gifts and talents, devoting ourselves to the task of making disciples of Jesus Christ.  (Matthew 28:18-20)  We build relationships both outside and within the church, demonstrating Christ-like compassion in responding to the needs of others.  (1 Peter 4:10)  Christ calls us to make disciples throughout the world: beginning in the Hamlet of Mendon, the neighborhoods in which we live and the greater Rochester area and beyond through support of missions & human-care ministries.  (Acts 1:8)  All that we do is in obedience to our Lord Jesus, carrying out his Great Commission:  making disciples, bringing lost people to a saving faith; and nurturing believers to mature in the faith. (Luke 19:10)

The Role of Our Leaders:

"Caring for the Committed So the Committed Can Care."

Stretch Your Spiritual Muscles!

From September through May, we invite you to participate in one of our Sunday morning Bible Studies.  We also welcome volunteers to help in Sunday School classrooms - most of our teachers report learning even more when they help teach children!

Are you regularly looking for an opportunity to dig deeper into the Word of God and grow in your faith?  Anyone who exercises knows that when you don't use your muscles they will atrophy.  The same is true of our faith - we can suffer spiritual atrophy if we settle in and don't challenge ourselves to grow.  Growing is good for you!  We challenge you to stretch yourself and participate in one of our Adult Education courses.

  • Pastor's Class  Join our pastor for this Bible-based discussion.  Topics have included Faith & Current Events, Prayer, & specific books of the Bible.  We're currently studying the Gospel According to Mark.  Sunday mornings (Sept. - May) at 10:30am in the upstairs lobby.
  • Faith Weavers:  Kathy Stranford invites you to enjoy a cup of gourmet coffee as you discuss weaving your faith into life.  This group meets off-campus at the Cottage Hotel, Sunday mornings (Sept. - May) at 10:30am
  • Prayer and Share Group.  Rev. Gerry Pera and his wife Ann Louise host a monthly small group on the 3rd Monday of each month.  Call 585.203.1468 for details or directions.
  • Mendon Bible Study.  Jim & Ginnie Knopp host this monthly fellowship & study group at various homes in Mendon on the 3rd Monday of the month.  Call 585.624.9814 for details or directions

Growing God's Kingdom!

God is good...all the time; and all the time....God is good!  We are grateful for four years of ministry in our renovated facility, which added some much-needed space and accessibility to those with mobility concerns.  In addition to hosting Red Cross Blood Drives and a regular Fellowship Luncheon, we have added a 2nd (Contemporary)  service to our Sunday schedule.  With the blessing of competent leaders and motivated volunteers, we renovated our Parish House, which includes the Church Office, Pastor's Study and rooms for Sunday School and meetings.  This past year, we welcomed two new families, with 2 more joined the congregation this past Winter..  Five others will soon become active members of St. Mark.  As we are Committed to Connecting Our Community to Christ, we do well to remember that God's plan is for his kingdom to grow:

He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come."  (Mark 4)

The growth of God's kingdom through the church is something that God Himself brings about ("all by itself").  Our role is to be fertile soil in which the kingdom can do its work and bear fruit.  As we look to the future of St. Mark, we give thanks to God for the opportunity to expand our site with the acquisition of the property next to our church.  This new property will allow us to immediately enlarge our parking space and plan for future building expansion as needed.  We ask you to pray that the Lord will give us wisdom and guide us.  Ask also for yourself a spirit of generosity that seeks to bless his kingdom work by preparing some fertile soil through your regular tithe and special offerings.  And remember, God's challenge to give comes with a promise of blessing:  "Bring the whole Tithe into the storehouse....and see if I don't pour open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing upon you that you cannot contain it!" (Malachi 3)

Our Affiliation: Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS)

St. Mark is a member congregation of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, founded in 1847 in St. Louis, MO.  Our national church body has over 6,000 congregations and 2.5million members.  The term "Synod" simply means "walking together."  Together, we accomplish more:  we support missionaries on nearly every continent in the world; lend aid through World Relief and Human Care; provide education and training for professional church workers (pastors, teachers, directors of Christian education, Deaconesses, Parish Nurses) and a variety of degree fields through our Concordia University System:  10 Colleges throughout the country and two seminaries in Ft. Wayne, IN and St. Louis, MO.  For more information on our national church body, resources, or statements of faith, click here:  http://www.lcms.org/

Our national church body is divided into 35 regions ("Districts"), two of which are non-geographic.  These provide a liaison between congregations and the larger church body.  Walking together as a district allows congregations to uphold local missions and provide networking and support for pastors, teachers and other professional church workers.  Each region provides support staff that works with congregations and schools to facilitate ministry and mission, functioning as a local representative of the national office.  Regionally, St. Mark is a member of the Eastern District of the LCMS.  The Eastern District is comprised of congregations from Albany to Buffalo, Pennsylvania and two congregations in Western Maryland.    The Eastern District Office is located in Williamsville, NY (Buffalo area).  For more information about our Eastern District, click here:  http://www.lcmsed.org/
